It's finally happened: the state of Georgia is going to try and ban evolution from text-books.
This won't have been the first time that something like this has happened, of course. There have been plenty of attempts in the past where backwards-ass states like Kansas and Arkansas have tried to ban the teaching of evolution on the grounds that it "interfered with their religion."
I'm going to refute the article that this was announced in, paragraph by ignorant paragraph.
From the article
What the fuck?! Holy shit, I didn't think people could be this ignorant. Hey, assholes! Guess what? Evolution is by definition biological changes over time! You're accomplishing absolutely nothing by this other than pandering to the ultra right-wing, obsessed-with-political-correctness-when-it-suits-their-agenda minority whose existence is shamefully inherent in every state. Can't you educators have the decency to teach truth as it is, in simple and plain terms?
Measures like this only make reinforce my theory on why certain people hate evolution: they don't understand it. They don't get it, at all, in any way, shape, or form. Otherwise, how do you account for them eliminating the word evolution? I'll tell you why they're eliminating it: Because religious groups have an ingrained response to it, evolved (take that, bitches) through years of inbreeding, that causes them to get pissed off whenever they hear the word. Yet when their children are taught the concept of evolution, their complete ignorance of science researched within the past 150 years and the scientific method comes into play, and they do stupid shit like this: allow their children to be taught the theory, only if the word evolution is not specifically used.
From the article
I hope all of you fucking biased liberals read this, because conservatives aren't the stereotypical anti-science, anti-abortion, and anti-technology dumbasses you think they are. Conservatives criticized this atrocious effort as well as liberals, because (guess what) they also practice such foreign concepts as logic and believe in intelligence.
While the state of Georgia is at it, why not go ahead and ban mathematics, chemistry, physics, and hell, history, too, because all of those subjects require use of the scientific method and logical thinking, both of which Georgia is clearly lacking.
From the article
Oh, so evolution is just a "buzzword" now? Then I guess "astronomy," "physics," and "biology," which are all equally scientific fields, are all just "buzzwords" as well? Why not just call every field of science "that dang-burned mathy stuff that our young-uns ain't gonna learn cuz the Bible done said NO NO NO!"
From the article
But why ban the word at all? Why make it officially illegal to teach "evolution" in the classroom? Why change it's name? Biological change over time IS evolution. It's absolutely pointless to change the name, because by doing so, you're just pandering to a minority group (something these religious psychos hate.) Your job, as educators, is to forfeit your fears and rights as citizens to teach curriculum that makes children into well-rounded and educated human beings. By becoming teachers, you placed the education of your children above your own political ambitions. At least, you were supposed to. This is a dark day for the government of Georgia, indeed.
From the article
Oh, I see. Just do whatever the people want without any regard for justice or logical thought. You know, this line of thinking led to a little something called THE FUCKING SALEM WITCH TRIALS, YOU FUCKING REDNECK PIECES OF SHIT!
Ahem. Your job is not to just do what the parents want. Your job is to encourage young people to be thoughtful and intelligent human beings. Avoiding a word just because a minority group is offended is basically telling your students, "Look, we can't teach you this word because evolution isn't good enough to be used with other scientific terms" which is simple, flat-out deceitfulness. Better, it's a lie.
From the article
''Here we are, saying we have to improve standards and improve education, and we're just throwing a bone to the conservatives with total disregard to what scientists say,'' said state Rep. Bob Holmes, a Democrat.
Former President Jimmy Carter had harsh words for the change on Friday, calling it an embarrassment and saying it exposes the state to nationwide ridicule.
''As a Christian, a trained engineer and scientist, and a professor at Emory University, I am embarrassed by Superintendent Kathy Cox's attempt to censor and distort the education of Georgia's students,'' Carter said in a statement.
Social conservatives who prefer religious creation to be taught instead of evolution criticized the proposal as well.
''If you're teaching the concept without the word, what's the point?'' said Rep. Bobby Franklin, a Republican. ''It's stupid. It's like teaching gravity without using the word gravity.''
Carter, a Baptist and Democrat who had served as Georgia governor before he was elected president in 1976, said that existing references to evolution in Georgia's curriculum have done nothing to damage religious faith in the state.
Yes, yes, yes! This is precisely the kind of criticism the proposal deserves and that I'm giving it, and every point (save for the one about throwing a bone to conservatives) is valid.
From the article
Uh, maybe because she can't think of a response, because there is no logical response? There's absolutely no reason to ban the word evolution, and doing so simply encourages the religious fanatics to try other methods to impose on our separation of church and State freedoms guaranteed to us in the U.S. Constitution.
This shit made me totally forget about my day, it pissed me off so badly. Dumbass backwards fucks, I hope they all burn in Hell.
BAH!
