Chakras = Shit

Fermium

Fermium Man says, "Chakras are for gullible idiots."

This weekend was mostly uneventful. I spent Saturday night sleeping on the couch at my grandmother's house, which leaves me tired today. I drove back home earlier today for about four hours and played AVP 2 and talked about the new AVP movie, which is going to completely destroy both the Alien and Predator movie series. The director of the movie is an idiot. The plot for this new movie is so insanely stupid I won't even bother describing it. Look it up and you'll agree.

My grandmother's Buick LeSabre, the car I drove back to my house for the four hour period, has no CD player, so I had to rely on radio for music. I went through several popular stations, and I feel that I can list a brief analysis of all of the radio stations I went through:

95.1 - While this station used to play remotely enjoyable music such as Linkin Park, it quickly devolved into "soul" and rap music. If you're an idiot, you'll enjoy this station.

94.1 - See 95.1.

96.9 - A good source of oldies music, 96.9 focuses mostly on the 50s-70s. The generality of the time period means that you'll hear only the popular oldies most of the time.

102.9 - Entirely focused on the 80s, the station delivers what it promises. Unfortunately, I can't stand 80s music with a few exceptions (Bon Jovi and a few random songs by random artists.) If you like 80s music, this is the only station you need to listen to.

103.5 - All I heard was random screaming, and I was unable to discern the genera of music this station played because five minutes into it, I stabbed my ear with a fork.

104.7 - This station plays only rock, both old and new. I heard two songs I liked on it (one was "Wasting My Time" by Default) and I've had good listening experiences with it in the past, so it's not too bad.

105.1/105.5 - Just shitty.

105.9 - THE source for shitty "emo" alternative music. While this station used to play good Linkin Park, Disturbed, and even a little Rammstein, now it only focuses on identifying with its oh-so-mature teenage demographic by only playing bands like Newfound Glory, Dashboard Confessional, and that one band that hates Bush and sings "Anthem." Those with any soul or taste in music need not listen to this station anymore.

Of course, you can do what I do when radio fails you (which is about 85% of the time for me.) You can listen to Sean Hannity or one of the various other pundits on t3h AMz. Hannity's station is 690 from 3-6, Mondays-Thursdays.

Bah, I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep.

I received my Scientific American yesterday. I have to say, my favorite column in that magazine thus far is Skeptic. Every week, the guy who writes the column bitch-slaps some pseudo-science with reason and the scientific method. This week, he tackled "Lithium-infused water," a drink that supposedly "rebalances your chakras." He interviewed a chemist, who said that suggesting that Lithium crystals could alter the chemical structure of water is just plain idiocy. Lithium crystals do not "infuse" water with anything; they dissolve poorly into water, and achieve no benefit. Science: 10,023,146. Pseudo-science: 0.

I can't believe that there are idiots out there that actually believe this metaphysics nonsense about shakras and balancing your body's energies to achieve happiness, and all of that other horse shit. There's no evidence for it. There's not even any logical thought process behind it. Occam's Razor doesn't even apply because Occam's Razor assumes that two syllogisms are on equal playing fields. What the hell is wrong with people? If I started a website selling "Bleach-fused soap" and went on and on about shakras, a bunch of God-damned hippies would buy my bleach-fused soap and die from the fumes because I mentioned "chakras." Who takes this shit seriously? Probably the same people who forward chain mail to their friends because the chain mail threatened them with bad karma if they didn't.

Humbug.
